And I’m learning through trial and error that well-controlled diabetes is not going to be a deal-breaker in a good relationship. I guess diabetes is just a good litmus test of your romance’s staying power. One of my friends with diabetes has been dating a guy for 2 years who knows she’s a diabetic.
Diabetes can cause difficulties during pregnancy such as a miscarriage or a baby born with birth defects.
Now I’m married to a wonderful man who really, really tries to help me: reminders to take medicine, a shoulder to cry on when things go bad, a person to celebrate when things go good, and so on and so forth. When I was younger, I would have never thought about dating a guy like my hubby, but I’m sure glad I had the smarts to marry him.
Advice to all you girls out there: if you have diabetes, your hubby/boyfriend should support you all the way.
I laugh at everything, I work ridiculous hours, and I am a smidge high-maintenance.
Being diabetic isn’t a personality trait or anything that I can even control, but it’s still a big part of my life, and if a guy becomes a big part of my life, then it becomes a part of his life, too.
